BRUNO GRANDINO
Bruno Grandino is a Brazilian cinematographer. He started his path in filmmaking over a decade ago in São Paulo where he began his film studies at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado one of the most renowned schools in the country. After freelancing for a few years as a cinematographer, Bruno attended FAMU, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic for Master’s degree in cinematography and graduated in the year of 2022. During the past seven years in Prague, Bruno has shot and assisted in several films as part of his studies at FAMU and has also held classes on Lighting and Cinematography at the institution; there, he taught and mentored aspiring filmmakers. His final thesis at FAMU focused on the use of certain cinematography tools such as lighting, deep focus, long takes and ‘newsreel style’ in Italian Neorealist films, and how the same techniques granted these films an enhanced sense of realism and influenced many other films to come. The thesis in question was awarded second place at FAMU’s Best Thesis award in 2022. In the following year, his work on the cinematography of the short film “Please Rise” was recognized by Energy CAMERIMAGE where he had the chance to screen and discuss his work in the Panorama section of the festival in a Round Table session with Stephen Lighthill, ASC and Constanza Sandoval. Bruno is currently involved in the development of various projects including upcoming short film “Brighter Days”. This was an idea of his that won the international 2024 Project Spark competition held by light manufacturers Nanlite and Nanlux and, as a result, was awarded funds to go into production. Furthermore, he is also involved in the pre-production and script of “Empty House”, an upcoming short film based on a true Iranian story that has won the International Screenwriters Association Award for Best Short Screenplay at HollyShorts (2024). He is also developing his first feature as a co-writer and cinematographer for the Prague-based company Off Beat Films while also working on academic research.
