Sun, sea, no obligations. After years of caring for her mentally disabled son David (David Vodstrčil), 45-year-old Ester (Aňa Geislerová) finds this to be a dream come true. She therefore accepts her friends’ invitation to visit them in Italy. However, in unfamiliar surroundings, David is unpredictable, emotional, and causes problems. Ester doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone, so she starts up an old, abandoned caravan and sets off alone with her son on a journey across Italy. No plans, no obligations, just the two of them. The spontaneous Zuza (Juliána Brutovská) bursts into their lives, and with her they can be themselves. Thanks to her, Ester realizes that her son is no longer a child and finally finds the courage to want something for herself in life. The film Karavan is a poetic road movie about freedom, different forms of love, and the aggressive desire to finally start living, not just surviving.
