The stubborn adventurer Fitzcarraldo decides to bring the miracle of European culture—opera—to the Peruvian rainforest. His journey into the heart of unexplored territory encounters countless difficulties, the most famous of which is moving a steamboat over a mountain ridge. The film features famous opera melodies, and we also hear the voice of Enrico Caruso on gramophone records, which almost miraculously calms the hostile Indians. The film was shot under extremely difficult conditions over three years, during which the director had to change the cast – Jack Nicholson and Mick Jagger, among others, withdrew.
