Jiří Maxa

 

Jiří Maxa, a Czech photographer and cinematographer who began his career with the TV-film How to Make a TV Show (1971, dir. Jiřina Pokorná-Makoszová) where he worked with the cinematographer Josef Illík and for the following 30 years he worked with Ivan Šlapeta. As director of photography, he served on films Cart (1989, dir. Václav Koubek) and Czech Cubism (dir. Michal Pacina). When Jan Němec returned from exile, Maxa became his best cinematographer and worked with him on his films Landscape of My Heart (2004), Toyen (2005), The Ferrari Dino Girl (2009) and Heart Beat 3D (2010). Their work is characterised by their experimental approach to the portrayed, whether it is the method of shooting or the formal execution of the message.
