For a long time, Vallbona was a forgotten corner on the outskirts of Barcelona, wedged between a river, a railroad track, and a highway. Workers lived here in illegally built houses and tended vegetable gardens and orchards.

Now, however, the outside world has discovered Vallbona. Both European migrant workers and Barcelona residents fleeing high rents have moved into this small community. While this occasionally causes friction, the overall atmosphere here is friendly. Greater concern, however, is caused by the planned construction of a new railroad line. Residents haven’t even been promised a train station. Will their voices be heard?
