Thief, robber, swindler, con artist, scoundrel, crook—all of these are hidden in the title of the new feature film *Poberta*. The director of this feature-length heist comedy of the same name is Ondřej Hudeček. Among other things, he is known for being the very first Czech director to win at the famous Sundance Film Festival. The main “hero” of Hudeček’s latest film, *Poberta*, Matyáš Řezníček, plays Lupyn, a petty thief who has just been released from prison and returns to his hometown. No sooner has he settled back into freedom than he’s already planning his next heist with his cronies, who had previously traded him for suspended sentences. The ongoing pandemic plays right into his hands—an extraordinary situation in which the rules that applied until now no longer hold.
