Thomas Mauch, born in 1937, is a multi-award-winning cinematographer, director, and producer. In 1962, Edgar Reitz invited him to teach cinematography at the newly founded film department of the Ulm School of Design, which Reitz headed together with Alexander Kluge. This marked the beginning of a long-standing collaboration. Thomas Mauch’s camera work had a significant influence on the look and success of New German Cinema. Over the past 60 years, he has worked with directors such as Edgar Reitz, Alexander Kluge, Ula Stöckl, Werner Herzog, Helma Sanders-Brahms, Jan Němec, Werner Schroeter (Golden Bear for the film Palermo oder Wolfsburg, 1980), Christian Wagner, Pia Frankenberg, and Jutta Brückner. In March 2019, he received the Marburg Camera Award for his life’s work.
