nochi: cinematographers on behalf of the agent
lecture and presentation | 60 min.
NOCHI Talent Agency is the first agency representing cinematographers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The agency system, which is quite common worldwide, is only just being introduced here. Getting assignments, signing contracts, and negotiating fees are the basic activities of a talent agent. How does the cooperation with the agent work? And what are the benefits of being represented by an agent for cinematographers? The founder of NOCHI, Julie Žáčková, will present how her agency works and how to best approach an agent. She will also present the work of her cinematographers.
Julie Žáčková is a graduate of the Department of Production at FAMU, and Critical and Cultural Theory at the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. During her studies she completed an internship at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. For several years she was responsible for the dramaturgy and production of the iShorts short film evenings at BIO OKO in Prague. Since 2012 she has been working with the production company Unit and Sofa, where she is currently in charge of film and television projects as a producer. Most recently, she produced the feature debut Okupace/Occupation (dir. Michal Nohejl). She has long been involved in supporting promising young filmmakers, whether through the first Czech-Slovak talent agency NOCHI, which she founded, which focuses on representing cinematographers, or Girls in Film, a London-based platform specializing in presenting the emerging generation of female filmmakers, whose Prague branch she runs.
