The 16th edition of the Ostrava Kamera Oko International Film Festival is coming

The Ostrava Kamera Oko (OKO) International Cinematography Film Festival is launching the pre-sale of accreditations at a discounted price on 1 June. The 16th edition of the festival will take place from 13 to 17 November 2024 in Ostrava. Last year, almost two thousand spectators attended.

“The fifteenth anniversary year was a milestone for us. Record attendance and positive feedback confirmed that we are on the right track. We will, therefore, continue our efforts – we will again focus on the camera in its entirety, without leaving out even marginal works that do not lie in the spotlight of world festivals. We will again involve expert curators in the programme and accompany the festival with a significant non-film programme, such as the traditional audiovisual night,” says Gabriela Knýblová, director of OKO.

However, the 16th edition of the Ostrava Kamera Oko International Cinematography Festival will see significant changes in its venues. Due to the planned closure of the former Bauhaus Hobby Market building, which has been a key part of the festival since 2017, the festival will need to find a new space for its programme and technical and production facilities. The organizers are actively searching for a suitable venue to ensure the festival’s continuity and quality.

“The Bauhaus was and is special and will be missed practically and especially symbolically. On the other hand, new possibilities and spaces are opening up, so the audience can look forward to seeing wherever we take them this year. We will continue our cooperation with PLATO, only to a lesser extent at their headquarters,” says Gabriela Knýblová.

Same as last year, the visual style of the 16th edition was created by graphic designer and student of the Prague UMPRUM Matěj Sumec—the black-and-white visual works playfully and with exaggeration with the world-famous abbreviations O.K. and K.O.

The presale of early bird passes for the 16th Ostrava Kamera Oko at a discounted price of CZK 750 will start on 1 June and last until 30 August or until sold out. From 1 September to 17 November, full-festival passes (900 CZK), weekend passes (600 CZK), and student passes (500 CZK) will be on sale.

OKO is financially supported by the State Cinematography Fund, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Statutory City of Ostrava, and the Moravian-Silesian Region.
